Final Project Components

A. Physical Fabrication

  1. Subtractive - The head of the Shoo Boar will be laser cut using ply. Also the body and hands will be cut using Shopbot.
  2. Additive - 3D printing Cover for the electronics including the sensors and 3D printing the Head of the Shoo Boar.

B. Electronics and Power.

  1. Microcontroller Board- Will be using ATTINY1614 with 2 input pins and 2 output pins.
  2. Inputs Devices - PIR sensor to sense the motion of the Animals and LDR sensors to light up the scarecrow at night.
  3. Output Devices - Speaker with SD card module which will have animal sounds like dogs, lions, etc. Also LED lights which will be all around the body of the scarecrow.
  4. Power Source - Batteries and also Solar Panel.
  5. Wiring, switches and Connectors - All the electronics will be placed inside the head. The PIR sensor will be place in the Centre of all the three sides of the head and the LDR sensor will be placed on top of the Head. There will be a Switch to turn on the Power supply which will be placed on the surface of the any Face.
  6. Circuit Design and Fabrication - I'm using Eagle to Design my board and will be using Roland SRM20 for Milling my Board.

C. Programming > Modules

  1. Inputs and Outputs - PIR sensor will give command to the Speaker to make noise when it senses presence of life. LDR sensor will command the LED lights to light up when the surrounding becomes dark.
  2. Aggregation Logic - The main Logic in the programming will be to ask the sensors to alert the outputs like the PIR sensor and LDR sensor will work together to command the speaker and LED to respond when needed.
  3. Plans of Debugging - Figuring out to create a sound that will not effect the hearing of Human and make the sound inaudible to the Human Ears and Audible to the Predators. Also figuring out how to have a strong back up on the power supply.

D. Project Assembly

  1. Will be using Screws, Hinges and Glue.

E. Presentation: Video and Slides.

  1. Function Delivery - Scarecrow will help keep away the crop effecting animals like Boars, Monkeys, etc away by sensing their presence and scaring them with the noise produced by the speaker. Also by lighting up the scarecrow at Night, it will help keep away the wild animals from entering the farm.
  2. Component Descriptions - Housing which is the Head of the scarecrow which will serve as a home for all the electronic components except the LEDs and speaker.
  3. Narrative - Bhutan is still a developing country where maximum population owns/depends on farming. Every year farmers lose their crops to wild animals.According to our Local News, farmers in the country on average lose about 8.250 metric tonnes of crops worth Nu.171.75 million every year to the wild animals which is alot in this small country. Hence safe guarding the crops seems to be one of the essential problems for the farmers. So I've come up with the idea to build a scare crow which will be easy to operate, user friendly, durable and cheap.
  4. Process - The model will be placed in the fields. THe LDR sensor will sense the light(natural night), so as soon as it gets dark, the LEDs will lit up which will show some presence of human in the field. The model will also have a PIR sensor which will sense the presence of animals or even human and the output to that will be the speaker, which will work as a siren to chase away the animals from harming the crops.
  • We did a Mock challenge organised by our Local Instructor Mr.Rico, where by we had to make our Final Project model in 1Hour duration. This is how my Model turned out.
